Before Sublyric, we spent nearly a decade in subtitle translation and localization services. Those years were largely dedicated to a single, demanding mission: transcribing and accurately translating tutorials and product materials from a renowned visual effects software company into Chinese.
How many hours, how many videos? Honestly, we lost count long ago. What we do remember is day after day, year after year — immersed in timelines and subtitle files, with barely a break in between.
Over those years, we tried virtually every subtitle tool available — free and paid — and none ever felt truly adequate. Transcription errors demanded time-consuming corrections. Timing never aligned quite right. After translation, we still had to proofread line by line.
As for karaoke lyrics, that required an entirely separate toolchain. Every tool change was simply re-experiencing the same obstacles and frustrations all over again.
Sublyric wasn't born from a theoretical "let's build software" idea that was later reverse-engineered into requirements. It grew organically, piece by piece, from the accumulated pain points we experienced every single day — starting with countless moments of "if only this could be automated," and eventually leading to the resolute decision to build what we desperately needed.
Why build your own tools instead of buying existing ones?Every tool we tried had its own shortcomings — one had accurate transcription but painful timing, another made translation easy but required a separate toolchain for karaoke effects. Rather than juggling multiple applications, we decided to turn those accumulated pain points into a truly end-to-end solution. That is the founding idea behind Sublyric.
Who is Sublyric designed for?Sublyric is built for fansub groups, localization teams, independent translators, and creators producing cover-song MVs and lyric animations — in short, anyone who works regularly with video subtitles.
What's the difference between the Free and Professional editions?If you only occasionally need to subtitle a video, the Free Edition is more than sufficient. If you do this work regularly and at volume, the Professional Edition's AI transcription and translation capabilities will offload a significant amount of repetitive work, allowing you to invest your time and energy in what truly matters — creative value.
What's next on the roadmap?We'll continue listening to user feedback and refining Sublyric around the real pain points of subtitle creation, lyric editing, and text workflows. The editing experience is already streamlined, but our ultimate goal is to make repetitive editing and refinement nearly disappear — until a single click can complete the workflow.
